Rare vintage ‘boomerang’ desk, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé Furniture Factory in the 1960s. Van Teeffelen was strongly inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics; this model is presumably based on a virtually identical design by Svend Aage Madsen.
The desk originates from Amsterdam and was purchased together with a matching sideboard, also designed by Van Teeffelen. Together, they formed an idyllic combination within a stylish home office.
In our workshop, the desk has been fully restored with respect for the original design and the characterful patina. The teak wood has been nourished and finished with a protective coating, bringing the grain beautifully back to life and giving the whole piece a warm, rich appearance.
The design is characterized by the sculptural boomerang-shaped top. On the left are three drawers, and on the right a flap door with a subtly extendable work surface above it for extra workspace. As is often the case with Van Teeffelen, the practical elements are fully integrated into the design without compromising the furniture's understated appearance. A notable detail is the beautifully open-finished back, allowing the desk to be placed freely in the room.
The combination of organic forms, refined wood joints, and carefully crafted brass details makes this desk one of the most successful designs in Louis van Teeffelen's oeuvre. Even more than sixty years later, the design looks surprisingly modern: a rare piece of Dutch design in which functionality and aesthetics naturally coincide.
