Product description
This bookcase or room divider is a design by Wim Rietveld, a prominent name in Dutch Design, and was commissioned by De Bijenkorf in the 1960s. The piece of furniture is characterized by a sleek, functional design typical of the post-war modernist movement in the Netherlands.
The cabinet is made of metal and features a contrasting black and white color scheme. The open structure with staggered vertical panels creates a playful and spacious effect, making the object excellent for use as a partition in an open space. The construction is robust and reflects the industrial aesthetic of the mid-twentieth century.
This piece of furniture is in a condition commensurate with its age and use, while retaining its original character. It is an authentic piece that has stood the test of time and remains fully functional.
The original lacquer is still present, with some damage and rust spots on a lower shelf. This Wim Rietveld room divider comes into its own particularly well in an industrial or Mid-Century Modern interior. It offers a stylish solution for displaying books, art objects, or collections, while simultaneously structuring the space in an elegant way.
There is no brand label or anything similar present, or at least none to be found by me.
