Cordless Vase Lamp – Bodo Mans for Bay Keramik. A Fat Lava vase from the West German Pottery era of the 1970s forms the basis for this cordless vase lamp: a large handled vase by Bodo Mans for Bay Keramik. Typical of the ceramics of this period is the striking shape, bold colors, and varied glaze textures. The light, slightly speckled base is covered with a broad, almost lava-like foam glaze in red, turquoise green, and dark brown. The large handle and the multi-tiered neck give the vase a sculptural effect. I combined it with a cylindrical lampshade featuring an extraordinary fish and underwater motif. The fabric, called "Current – Sea," is made of fine cotton and comes from Anna Maria Textile by Northcott Fabrics in Canada. The finely drawn pattern in vibrant green on a light background particularly echoes the green sections of the vintage glaze. Thus, two very different graphic worlds meet, which come together surprisingly naturally in terms of color. The original vase remains completely intact during the conversion: it is neither drilled nor permanently altered in any other way. The lamp assembly fits into the opening like a plug and can be removed at any time. The vase's collector's value is fully preserved. The lamp is wireless and therefore independent of a power outlet. The rechargeable LED light source is charged via USB-C and can be controlled by remote control and set to different light colors.
