Boch Frères Keramis Covered Faience Jar – Art Deco Period – Belgium, 1930s
An elegant and uncommon covered faience jar by Boch Frères Keramis, produced in La Louvière, Belgium during the Art Deco period of the 1930s. This decorative piece beautifully combines the clean, architectural silhouette of Art Deco with a richly ornamented hand-painted decor inspired by historic Delft and Flemish faience traditions.
The jar is decorated with vibrant stylized tulips, floral rosettes and scrolling cobalt-blue motifs, accented with touches of green, yellow and iron-red. The design recalls traditional Dutch and Flemish decorative ceramics, while the bold geometry of the form firmly belongs to the Art Deco era. The contrast between the sculptural shape and the folkloric ornament creates a particularly striking visual balance.
Its generous rounded body and domed lid give the piece a strong decorative presence, making it equally suitable as a standalone object, a decorative storage jar, or as part of a collection of Belgian Art Deco ceramics.
The decor appears to be related to the Delft-inspired luxury faience tradition developed by Boch Frères Keramis, a specialty for which the manufactory became particularly well known.
Condition is very good overall for its age, with only minor signs of wear consistent with nearly a century of existence. The colors remain vibrant, the glaze retains a beautiful sheen, and the piece presents exceptionally well.
Founded in the 19th century, Boch Frères Keramis became one of Belgium’s most important ceramic manufactories, internationally recognized for both its traditional faience production and its groundbreaking Art Deco creations. The company’s work helped define Belgian decorative arts during the interwar period, combining historical influences with modern design language that remains highly collectible today.
