An elegant decorative bowl by Boch Frères Keramis, Belgium, dating from the Art Deco period of the 1930s. While its floral decoration draws inspiration from the celebrated Bouquet de Saxe (Saxon Flowers) tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries, the form itself is unmistakably Art Deco, reflecting the modern design language embraced by Boch during the interwar years.
The softly curved body is decorated with finely detailed floral bouquets featuring anemones, irises, cornflowers and other garden flowers rendered in vibrant enamel colours. Contrasting beautifully with the delicate decoration are the sculptural gilt handles and undulating gilt rim, characteristic of the elegant decorative wares produced by the factory during the 1930s.
Originally conceived as a decorative bowl, this versatile piece can still be used today as a centrepiece for a dining table, for displaying flowers, seasonal fruits, berries, wrapped sweets, or simply as a striking decorative accent. Its combination of colourful floral decoration and sophisticated Art Deco form allows it to blend naturally into both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The bowl remains in very good condition. There is only light wear to the gilding consistent with age and careful use. Particularly noteworthy is the survival of the original Boch factory label, a desirable feature that adds to the authenticity and collectability of the piece.
Founded in La Louvière, Belgium, Boch Frères Keramis was one of the most important European ceramic manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company played a significant role in the development of Belgian Art Deco design, combining artistic innovation with exceptional craftsmanship.
