Some jewelry boxes are simple storage units. This one is, above all, a decorative object. Its lid reveals a nocturnal landscape where a traditional pavilion overlooks a peaceful garden. Two silhouettes stroll by the water's edge under the round light of a mother-of-pearl moon. The entire piece is crafted from fine mother-of-pearl inlays whose reflections change with the slightest movement of light, while golden clouds enliven the depth of the black lacquer. Upon opening, the interior contrasts with a lining of vibrant red silk and a mirror recessed into the lid. An upper compartment, painted with orange roses on a lacquered background, allows for storing jewelry or small keepsakes safely. Vietnamese craftsmanship made for export, second half of the 20th century. The box measures approximately 25 cm per side. It shows some signs of age consistent with its vintage. One fastening of the interior compartment is detached, without affecting its use, and can be easily reattached. Placed on a dressing table or a chest of drawers, it adds a refined touch of the Orient.
