Handmade ceramic Bitossi elephant designed by Aldo Londi in the 1970s. The elephant is part of his Rimini Blu collection (1955-1965). This iconic mid-century series includes more than 150 designs, including bowls, vases, jugs and animal figures, all in vibrant blue and characterized by abstract motifs and shapes.
Ceramiche Flavia was founded in 1921 by Guido Bitossi. From 1946 to 1976, under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, the factory worked with a number of outside artists, including, starting in the late 1950s, Ettore Sottsass. From the 1980s, Giovanni Masone took over as artistic director and invited members of the Memphis Group, including Piero Fornasetti, to collaborate. (Source: British Museum)
