Very beautiful, large, authentic Indian dowry chest or dowry chest/Damchiya with decoration and rosettes in hammered copper. Traditionally, these chests were taken by brides to their new home as part of their dowry, in which valuables, clothing, or expensive household linens were stored.
The base of the chest is made of hardwood and completely wrapped in brown metal plates, riveted with copper rivets. The front and the front rim feature beautiful gold-colored metal fittings (likely copper as well). The curved lid of the chest is fitted with a lock and key and has 2 handles for extra closure. The chest stands on wheels.
Ideal as a beautiful eye-catcher with storage space in a large room, entrance hall, or loft. The chest was commissioned in the 1960s in New Delhi (India) in the traditional manner by the owner of an Antwerp international company and has always stood in the entrance hall of his home.
