Beautiful large wool Smyrna artwork 'Annunciation' ('Announcement'), also known as the Message to Mary, by W. den Blaauwen (2003) based on a design by Johan Kollaard.
A unique piece!
As the sticker on the back explains, it is inspired by a quilt published in Quiltnieuws (2000) based on a design by Johan Kollaard, originally intended for a church that was ultimately never built.
It evokes associations with a stained-glass window.
I was able to find and purchase this Quilt magazine to complete the set; it is included in the purchase.
The textile artwork looks beautiful on a half-height cabinet, on the floor, and of course, on the wall.
It adds depth to the interior, the space, and conversations...
In wonderful vintage condition; please examine the photos carefully.
I have thoroughly re-stretched the piece and fitted it with a new frame. I have incorporated the old frame on the back to preserve the original.
It can be enjoyed for years to come.
