Product description
Description: For lovers of vintage and Art Deco: a magnificent, very extensive 12-piece compote set / dessert set made of pink pressed glass (rosaline), probably from the 1930s (see description below). This set is a real eye-catcher on a festively set table or during a high tea! Due to its unique size (for no less than 11 people and a large serving bowl), sets like this are rarely found. The set consists of: 1x Large, deep serving bowl / compote bowl (diameter approx. 29 cm) 11x Matching dessert bowls / ice cream dishes (diameter approx. 14 cm) Condition: The entire set is in absolute perfect condition. The glass is beautifully clear (no dullness from the dishwasher) and there are no chips, cracks (1 very small one on the bottom of the large bowl, minimal considering its age) or flea bites off the glass. As if the dinnerware came out of the store yesterday! Why are there air bubbles? Production method: This dinnerware is made of pressed glass from the 1930s. At that time, the production process in glass factories was not as perfect as it is now. During the melting and pressing of liquid glass, small bubbles (air inclusions) often remained. Proof of age: Collectors and experts see these bubbles as charming proof that it is authentic, old glass and not a modern plastic or glass imitation. There is a small chip on the base ring (the bottom rim) of the large bowl, which cannot be captured in a photo. But it belongs to its age. The Art Deco design: The geometric interplay of lines (the sleek ridges and the 'starburst' star in the bottom) is the hallmark of the Art Deco period from the 1930s. In the 1960s, the shapes were much more organic, rounder, or very sleek modernist. The color pink: The specific soft pink, somewhat transparent pressed glass is known worldwide as Depression glass. In the 1960s, pink glass was much less common; people then opted more for olive green, amber, warm orange, or deep blue.
