Restored and rare set of 4 dining chairs, designed by W.H. Gispen for the Dutch company KEMBO.
Kembo, founded by Gispen and Ru Meijer, stood for "Kom Eerst Maar Bij Ons" (Come First, Come With Us) and quickly specialized in modern and sleek furniture for its time. They used a lot of black lacquered steel, which, thanks to its strength, created a light appearance.
The use of this material and their simple yet strong design give the chairs an instantly recognizable character. The black lacquered armrests complete the look and ensure comfortable seating.
The model has proven to be very timeless, and even today, chairs inspired by this design are still available on the market, perfect for contemporary interiors.
These chairs date from the factory's early days, when it was still located in Rhenen.
They have recently been restored, with completely new upholstery and padding. A heavy-duty upholstery fabric was chosen, the frames were repainted in high-gloss black, and the legs were also fitted with new rubber feet.
This set is now in beautiful condition, retaining its vintage charm and character, and will easily last for many years to come.
