Founded in the 1930s and active until the late 1990s, BAY Keramik was one of the leading manufacturers of West German art pottery. During the 1950s–1970s, the company became internationally known for its expressive relief surfaces, experimental glazes, and sculptural forms—key characteristics of what is now widely referred to as the Fat Lava movement.Many of BAY’s most distinctive designs are associated with Ernst Stauber, a trained Töpfermeister who helped translate studio-pottery sensibilities into industrial production, giving BAY pieces their unique balance of craftsmanship and serial design.
