This striking lounge chair was designed in the 1970s by Swedish designer Johan Bertil Häggström for IKEA and is a remarkable example of combining Bauhaus-inspired design with exceptional seating comfort.
Its defining feature is the rounded frame made of chrome-plated tubular steel, which forms the armrests, side panels, and base in a continuous line. The seat is upholstered in a taut black fabric, which, thanks to its elastic suspension, supports the softly padded cushion and also acts as a structural element.
The generously sized cushions are covered in smooth black leather and are characterized by their soft, gently sloping armrests and deep, inviting seat.
The removable cushion elements rest loosely on the frame and precisely follow the shape of the upholstery, giving the chair an airy, floating appearance. The combination of soft leather and cool steel is reminiscent of classic Bauhaus modernism, but here it's interpreted in a more homely, casual way – typical of the progressive design experiments that IKEA produced in small series during the 1970s.
Condition: The armchair is in very good condition. The chrome-plated tubular frame shows no corrosion and only minimal signs of wear in the form of fine surface scratches. The fabric upholstery is taut, clean, and without fading or tears. The black leather is soft and supple, with a few age-related creases and an even patina, but without any tears, stains, or significant wear. Overall, the armchair is in well-maintained, fully functional, and ready-to-use condition.
