Discover a unique piece of history with this vintage double-sided backgammon board. (Nardi in Russia)
Handmade in the USSR (most likely in the South, Ukraine, around 1960), this piece is brimming with Soviet symbolism. The obverse side features a symbolic portrait of Stalin in high-quality inlay of various woods. The interior is also inlaid, and all the playing pieces feature images of Soviet buildings in the center. Over time, one black piece was lost or broken and replaced by a black piece without an image. The reverse side depicts Odesa (hence the sailboat) with plenty of Soviet symbolism: architecture, the seagull, and so on. The inlay on the back is a true work of art. The board has been used and shows signs of wear (wear on the corners), but these in no way detract from the beauty and charm of the design. A conscious decision was made not to restore it.
