At a time when garment making still relied on the craftsman's skill and mastery, each step of the work required a specialized tool. This BABETH precision iron, made in France, belongs to that generation of devices designed for sewing workshops, fashion houses, and milliners, where finishes were handcrafted with a level of exacting standards now rarely seen. Unlike household irons intended for large fabric surfaces, this model was designed for working on the most delicate parts of a garment. Its polished metal heating head allowed for precise shaping of collar curves, smoothing sleeves, forming ruffles, cuffs, headpieces, as well as lingerie embellishments and ribbons used in millinery. In workshops, it was also used for meticulous alterations impossible to achieve with a standard iron. The appliance's silhouette alone is a testament to French industrial design of the 1950s-1960s. The solid wood base ensures perfect stability, while the articulated arm allows the heating head to be naturally positioned according to the work to be done. The materials harmoniously blend varnished wood, aluminum, and chrome-plated metal, creating a functional yet elegant piece. The original label is still present and bears the inscriptions BABETH, Made in France, Breveté S.G.D.G., 220 volts. The Breveté S.G.D.G. (Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement - Patented Without Government Guarantee) marking, used in France until 1968, constitutes a valuable historical reference and confirms manufacture prior to this date. Beyond its technical interest, this object tells the story of a period when sewing workshops were equipped with specialized tools, now almost entirely disappeared with the industrialization of ready-to-wear. It will appeal to collectors of antique trade tools as much as to enthusiasts of fashion, sewing, millinery, or French industrial design. The item is presented in a beautiful state of preservation, with its original power cord and switch. Given its age, its operation should be checked before use. The base measures approximately 17 x 10 cm, with a height of approximately 26 cm.
