Beautiful, authentic solid oak side table with a lovely patina of use. Probably manufactured around 1890–1915, presumably in the Netherlands or Belgium, possibly influenced by English tripod tables from the same period.
The table features a turned central column on a classic tripod base and a rectangular solid oak top. The construction is traditionally executed with an artisan-made tripod base and a solid plank top. The original crossbars are still visible underneath the top.
Dimensions
• Height: 71 cm
• Top: 56 × 37 cm
Details
• Solid oak.
• Beautiful, weathered patina befitting its age.
• Artisanal construction with traditional joints.
• Original black inventory stamp “M15 / 87” on the underside.
• Remnant of an old paper label present; unfortunately, no longer legible.
• The table is sturdy and shows the signs of use one would expect from a piece of furniture over a century old. Based on the construction and finish, this does not appear to be a modern reproduction, but rather an authentic old piece of furniture from the late 19th or early 20th century. The rectangular dimensions make it likely a small side table, reading table, or lamp table (occasional table), rather than a classic wine table.
I prefer to leave the exact attribution to the connoisseur; there is no maker's mark present, and therefore I cannot make definitive statements regarding its provenance. It is precisely this that makes it an interesting piece for the lover of honest, old furniture.
