Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt, wild nature, and protector of animals, is represented here in a resolutely modernist interpretation, very far removed from traditional ancient statuary. The goddess is recognizable by her emblematic attribute, the bow, which she holds with a sweeping gesture. Her body stretches into a slender, almost hieratic silhouette, while the face and limbs are deliberately simplified. The artist does not seek realism but rather line, movement, and the power of the symbol. This manner of reinterpreting the great figures of Antiquity is particularly characteristic of the decorative arts of the second half of the 20th century. The archaizing and almost primitive forms meet here with a modernist aesthetic that gives this small sculpture a lot of personality. Made of bronze, the statuette has a very beautiful material quality. Its deep and irregular verdigris patina reveals in places the warm, golden tones of the metal.
