Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt, wild nature, and protector of animals, is represented here in a resolutely modernist interpretation, very far from traditional antique statuary. The goddess is recognized by her emblematic attribute, the bow, which she holds in a sweeping gesture. Her body stretches into a slender, almost hieratic silhouette, while the face and limbs are deliberately simplified. The artist does not seek realism but rather line, movement, and the strength of the symbol. This way of reinterpreting great figures from Antiquity is particularly characteristic of decorative arts from the second half of the 20th century. Archaic and almost primitive forms meet here a modernist aesthetic that gives this small sculpture a great deal of personality. Made of bronze, the statuette possesses a beautiful material quality. Its deep, irregular verdigris patina reveals in places the warm, golden tones of the metal. These contrasts emphasize the volumes and give a slightly different reading of the sculpture from every angle. At approximately 13.5 cm in height, Artemis remains a small-format piece but possesses a surprising presence. On a console, among old books, in a library, or paired with brutalist and modernist objects, it immediately becomes a small focal point in the decor.
