Curated Vase Duo by Johan van Loon for Rosenthal Studio Linie – Sculptural White Porcelain Art
Offered here is a striking duo of sculptural porcelain vases, designed by the acclaimed Dutch ceramist Johan van Loon for Rosenthal Studio Linie, Germany. Each vase is a unique object of fine art and craftsmanship – together, they form a curated pairing that dialogues through form, rhythm, and surface texture.
These pieces exemplify van Loon’s architectural sensibility and his poetic understanding of volume. Their undulating shapes echo organic formations — wind-shaped dunes or flowing fabric — and are further enriched by the subtle relief of fine horizontal striations in the matte white porcelain.
The set includes:
One vase with a narrow base and soft asymmetric crest, almost totemic in its upright presence;
One vase with flaired edges and flowing silhouette, a piece that suggests motion even in stillness.
These vases are in excellent vintage condition, with only minor patina consistent with careful, respectful display. They are visually captivating from every angle and display beautifully both together and individually.
About the Designer
Johan Gerard van Loon (1934–2020) was a pioneering Dutch ceramist and textile artist, celebrated for his role in advancing ceramics from functional object to expressive sculptural medium. He studied textile design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Konstfack in Stockholm, where he worked with Stig Lindberg. He also studied pottery under Jos Eppens van Veen, Thera Hofstede Crull, and Lucie Rie in London.
Van Loon’s interdisciplinary career bridged ceramics, textile design, and education. After founding his studio in Hengelo, he collaborated with Royal Copenhagen, taught at multiple Dutch art academies, and was instrumental in founding the ceramics department at ArtEZ in Enschede. His work merges tactile sensitivity with modernist clarity, and his pieces are held in collections across Europe.
