Product description
Art Nouveau Torhout Pottery Sugar Bowl – Family Maes (c. 1900) An Art Nouveau ceramic sugar bowl with lid, handcrafted in Torhout, Belgium, around the turn of the century (1895–1910). This fine piece of traditional Flemish earthenware (Poterie Flamande) was created in the workshop of the Maes family, celebrated for their contribution to the artistic revival of regional pottery. The bowl features a warm palette of lead-glazed engobe in mottled brown, honey, and ochre tones. The body is decorated in deep relief with stylized floral motifs, typical of the regional Art Nouveau movement. The lid is crowned with a sculpted flower-shaped knob and handle, resting on four small integral feet at the base. Constructed from local clay using traditional techniques, each piece retains unique glaze variations. 12 cm height x 14 cm diameter. Mint condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. 12 cm x 14 cm. Parfait état. Aucune ébréchure, fêle ou restauration.
