Antique Art Nouveau brooch, circa 1900, with a stylized naturalistic design depicting an interlacing of finely chased and veined leaves and sinuous stems.
The vegetal composition, typical of the French Art Nouveau aesthetic, is enlivened by small, delicate pearls, most likely freshwater pearls, set within the design.
The brooch is crafted from gold alloys of different grades, combining yellow and rose gold to emphasize the volume, veins, and relief of the vegetal motif. It is a workshop piece, not mass-produced, revealing a high level of skill in modeling and chasing. The reverse features an antique pin clasp in a harder alloy, consistent with settings from the late 19th to early 20th century. A partially illegible square maker's mark is visible, along with a rectangular workshop mark bearing the inscription "TITRE UNIQUE" and the initials A.F.
This marking likely indicates a gold alloy specific to the workshop, outside the standardized official purities (neither 18k nor 14k). Touchstone tests show a correlation with a purity close to 9 carats or high-quality gold plating. The inscription "Titre Unique," rarely encountered—the experts consulted had no explanation for this marking and had never seen it before—and undocumented in literature or known hallmark databases, gives this brooch a unique and collectable character.
