This bowl possesses an immediate allure. First, the material: amethyst glass of a deep, rosy purple, translucent, which captures and filters light with a unique softness. Then, the form: a generous hemispherical bowl, with smooth and regular walls, resting in its mount like a gemstone in its setting. But it is the mount that truly makes this piece remarkable. Crafted from blackened wrought iron, it showcases the full ornamental vocabulary of Art Nouveau: finely cut dragonflies perch on the bowl's body, accompanied by flexible stems laden with small, round berries. The feet, formed of foliate scrolls, naturally extend this decor, lending the piece an airy lightness unexpected of metal. The elegantly curved arched handle is topped with a finely shaped, slightly silvered central grip, which contrasts with the matte black of the wrought iron. On the reverse, a cross-shaped frame secures the bowl in its mount with a precision that speaks to genuine artisanal craftsmanship. This piece dates from the height of the Art Nouveau period, circa , when French and European artisans drew their forms and ornamentation from nature. The dragonfly, a favored motif of this era, finds a particularly accomplished interpretation here. The bowl is in perfect condition. The glass shows no chips.
