This Art Deco biscuit box is a piece of domestic woodworking of refined and restrained elegance. The rectangular box, made of light-colored wood, beech or maple, rests on two side feet of turned wood with concentric fluting, a typically Art Deco decorative detail that elevates the object above a mere utensil. The lid slides in glass grooves, allowing the contents to be seen without opening it. This ingenious system, both practical and decorative, was highly valued in bourgeois interiors of the 1930s-1940s for presenting dry biscuits, petits fours, or confections during receptions. The cylindrical turned handle with fluting, attached to the lid, completes the ensemble with perfect stylistic coherence. The exterior of the box is stained midnight blue, the interior is left in light natural wood. This contrast of materials and tones is characteristic of the Art Deco aesthetic for two-tone effects and unexpected combinations. Complete set with its original glass, in good condition. Length 23 cm, height approximately 10 cm.
