Les Merciers is proud to present a quintessential piece of French Art Deco history: the "Woman and Fawn" (Femme à la biche) ceramic sculpture, created by the renowned artist Charles Lemanceau (1905-1980) for the famous Saint-Clément manufacture.
This large-scale piece, dating from the 1930s, is a perfect example of the "Modernist" aesthetic of the Interwar period. Lemanceau was a master of stylized animalier and feminine forms. Here, the soft, cream-colored crackle glaze (faïence craquelée) highlights the elegant, horizontal lines and the serene atmosphere of the composition.
A timeless collector's item that brings a sophisticated, historical touch to any high-end interior, whether placed on a marble console, a mantelpiece, or a mid-century sideboard.
Condition Report:
The sculpture is in excellent vintage condition. The enamel remains bright and glossy. As is characteristic for ceramics of this age, there is fine, authentic crazing (crackle effect) throughout the glaze, which confirms its 1930s origin. No major chips, cracks, or restorations were found upon inspection.
