This radio embodies a raw piece of French history. It was manufactured in the late 1930s or very early 1940s, during those years when radio was the only link between the French people and the world. Its solid mahogany-stained wooden case, with rounded corners characteristic of late Art Deco aesthetics, bears the marks of time with a certain dignity. The chromed metal front panel, now oxidized and flaking, frames a diamond-patterned loudspeaker grille and a station dial with columns engraved in green on a blue background: SW, MW, LW, featuring period names like Andorra, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Paris, Bordeaux. Four white bakelite knobs are at the bottom of the front panel. No visible power supply. Untested, offered as-is for decoration or to be restored to working order by an electronics technician. Satisfactory condition considering its age. Placed on a desk, a console, or a shelf, this radio is a rare and authentic piece of history. It survived the Occupation and the Trente Glorieuses (Thirty Glorious Years) without losing its soul. The patina of its wood and chrome tells a story more compelling than any restoration could.
