Monumental Skyscraper Clock from 1925/1930.
High-end French production from the 1930s.
Typical blend of marble, onyx, silver-plated metal, and glass.
Pentagonal pediment with a central motif of a radiant sun and stylized Art Deco leaves, emblematic of the liner style. Columns adorned with stylized motifs and surmounted by a green onyx sphere, emblematic of the skyscraper.
Enamelled dial with Art Deco numerals in very good condition, mounted on a Parisian movement, gold medal winner Marty 1900.
The entire mechanism is driven by a mercury compensating balance, typical of high-end clocks.
Lantern-shaped glass case.
Cream travertine marble, green onyx, brown veined marble, pewter, spelter, chrome uprights, glass.
Small sections of the cream marble case have chips and missing pieces (in three places), which is to be expected given its age of 100 years.
The winding spring is worn and needs to be wound three times a day. Until it can be replaced by a watchmaker, a spare spring is provided.
The Marty movement is in excellent working order and chimes every hour and half-hour. The gong has a pleasant, deep sound.
Due to its weight (20 kg) and the presence of the mercury balance wheel, shipping the clock is not possible. It must be collected in Strasbourg, near the Cathedral.
