An UFO.
This superb screw nutcracker in turned wood (boxwood or beech) features a pyro-engraved and painted decoration of exceptional finesse, depicting a pelotari (Basque pelota player) in action, equipped with his chistera, against a backdrop of Pyrenean mountains and a village pediment.
The geometric graphics of the reliefs and the dynamism of the player are the essential visual signature of the famous Basque Country painter Louis Floutier (1882-1936). The technical transcription in polychrome pyrography (cream paint highlights for the clothing and black for the traditional beret) is the work of master pyrographer Bussy. This point was confirmed by the manager of Louis Floutier's catalog.

While wall panels or boxes signed Bussy after Floutier are sometimes found on the market, this variation on a utilitarian volume support (screw nutcracker) is unprecedented, unlisted, and unobtainable. It is most likely a unique piece (masterpiece, workshop trial, or artisan's gift).
Condition: exceptional for a utilitarian object nearly a century old.
