Product description
Powder pink, lilac, violet, milky white... this candy box seems to have captured the colors of a twilight sky. The opaline is streaked with irregular marbling that blends into itself, making each section distinct. Some areas are almost white, while others are imbued with mauve and pink, taking on amethyst-like tones. When opened, the decoration continues inside with large, particularly beautiful colored volutes. Its design transports us directly to the Art Deco years. The lid abandons the gentle curves of previous decades in favor of a highly architectural composition. Lines emanate from the center, breaking and forming points and raised patterns. Between them, small clusters of fruit are molded into the opaline. Nature is still present, but it has adapted to the taste of the 1930s: ordered, stylized, geometric. The body complements this with a succession of oblique facets that lend rhythm to the piece and multiply the interplay of light. This also tells the story of an era when French glassmaking experienced tremendous creativity. Household objects became bolder, colors asserted themselves, and molded glass allowed for the creation of reliefs previously reserved for much more expensive productions. The major glassworks of Eastern France fully participated in this evolution. With its marbled opaline and decorative style, this candy box is in the vein of Portieux-Vallérysthal productions from the interwar period. However, it bears no mark allowing for its certain attribution to that manufacturer. Measuring approximately 12 cm in diameter, it belongs to those small boxes found in the privacy of the home: candies, jewelry, powder, pins, or small keepsakes could find refuge within. Today, it needs nothing. Placed on a dresser, vanity, or console, its color speaks volumes. And when light catches its facets, the pink and violet tones come to life. A small piece of the 1930s, entirely rendered in opaline, relief, and color.
