Beautiful Art Deco table lamp from around 1925. The lamp is made of Fer Forgé (wrought iron) and equipped with two paté de verre lampshades that are signed with Schneider. Schneider et Cie was founded in 1913 by Charles Schneider. Charles Schneider (1881-1953) was born in the Alsace-Lorraine region. When that area was annexed by Germany in 1871 after the war with Germany, the Schneider family moved to Nancy. In Nancy, Charles received his glass training from Daum. The Art Nouveau period was then in full bloom. In March 1913, Charles and his brother Ernest bought a glass factory in Epinay-sur Seine, north of Paris. When World War I broke out in 1914, Charles and Ernest were called up for military service and production of their glass immediately came to a halt. In 1917 the government needed medical glassware and the brothers were allowed to restart the ovens. After the war, the Schneider brothers had the opportunity to blow artistic glass. Charles Schneider was more or less the sole designer of the factory. The models were made under his supervision. The decoration on the vases of flowers and plants was inspired by Art Nouveau, but the style and color heralded a new era: Art Deco. The production was split in two and therefore had two different signatures: Schneider and Le Verre Français. Schneider glass is usually without decoration, but with bright colors (the fireworks in glass) and the vases can have special shapes. Le Verre Français glass is usually etched with flowers or animals and the shapes of the vases are more conservative. The Schneider glass factory exported large quantities of glass to North and South America. When the New York Stock Exchange crashed in 1929, Schneider was also hit hard. Production came to a halt and the ovens were extinguished in 1931. In 1938 the Schneider glass factory went bankrupt and the most colorful production of Art Deco glass came to an end. The lamp is in good working condition and is 46 cm high.
