Ditmar Urbach ceramic sculpture of a polar bear on an ice floe, manufactured in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. This Art Deco object displays the characteristic stylized design and craftsmanship of the renowned manufacturer from that period.
The sculpture is made of glazed ceramic, depicting the polar bear in a cream-colored hue with dark accents, resting on a turquoise and blue-nuanced base representing an ice floe. The underside features the original factory stamps, confirming its authenticity and provenance.
It was created as a tribute to Nora, the first polar bear in the Prague Zoo. This sculptural bowl features a unique, colorful glaze that mimics the cool tones of a glacier: aqua, turquoise, white, and gray.
The object is in good condition commensurate with its age, with the glaze retaining its original luster. The characteristic appearance of early twentieth-century ceramics has been well preserved. This decorative piece comes into its own perfectly in an Art Deco interior or as part of a collection of historic ceramics. It forms a striking accent on a sideboard or in a display cabinet.
There is slight, almost invisible edge damage to the left handle; see photo for details. Otherwise, it is in undamaged vintage condition.
