Elegant vintage pair of carved alabaster bird bookends.
These elegant bookends feature stylized parrots or cockatoos with a distinctive crest, carefully carved from translucent alabaster stone. The soft creamy color and subtle warm tones are characteristic of alabaster and give the pieces a gentle glow when placed in natural light. While the base is white, the bodies are more yellow and the heads soft pink.
Each bird sits on a solid geometric base, creating a sculptural and balanced design that works perfectly on a bookshelf, desk or cabinet.
Pieces like these were predominantly produced in Italy during the 1930s-60s in the alabaster workshops around Volterra, making them both decorative and collectible.
