Art Basel is a private, for-profit contemporary art event held annually in Basel, Switzerland. Co-founded by Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner, and Balz Hilt, three Basel gallery owners, the first edition of the international exhibition "ART" opened in Basel on June 12, 1970.[1] Ninety art galleries from ten countries exhibited at the first edition, attracting over 16,000 visitors.
