Magnificent French wall light made of ormolu, or mercury-gilt bronze, in the classic Louis XVI style. It features a cruciform base with edges worked in curves and counter-curves. The central part is decorated with symmetrical floral motifs that appear to radiate from the core. The ornamental details are carefully chiseled, with embossed leaf and flower patterns covering the entire surface. For some authors, Louis XVI is a style with a markedly "feminine" tendency, and may even have been named after "Marie Antoinette." It contrasts with Louis XV due to its simplicity; the rigor of geometric forms and straight lines, inspired directly by classical architecture, is once again appreciated. It is characterized by lightness, harmony, and proportion, leaving aside the heaviness and excess of the styles it follows. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style than its predecessor.
