Product description
DESCRIPTION: A very rare antique mechanical bottle corker from the Parisian brewery Cirier Pavard. This beautiful piece of equipment from the late 19th century was used to place corks in beer or wine bottles. The bottles can be placed on the holder and adjusted in height using the wheel. By standing on the lever, the cork is pushed in. The entire unit is made of beautiful wrought iron with bronze fittings. This is a truly unique item from a high-quality brewery and would look great at a wine or beer tasting, in a classic French restaurant, or in a museum. ABOUT CIRIER PAVARD: Cirier-Pavard Brewery (Saint-Germain-en-Laye) The Cirier-Pavard Brewery was one of the most progressive breweries in the Paris region at the end of the 19th century. The company emerged from a collaboration between the Pavard family, active in beer production for generations, and Lucien Cirier, a chemical engineer and son-in-law of Albert Pavard. After Albert Pavard's death in 1888, the brewery came under the sole management of Lucien and his wife, Marie-Émilie Pavard, and was henceforth known as Cirier-Pavard. The brewery was known for its modern industrial approach. With extensive cellars, ice machines for bottom-fermentation, and its own water source, it produced approximately 40,000 hectoliters of beer annually, primarily bock beer based on the Bavarian style. Thanks to this quality and technical progress, the company acquired a strong reputation and, after winning a gold medal in 1878, even became an official supplier to companies such as the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and Wagons-Lits. By 1890, the brewery was considered a model within the French beer industry and employed dozens of workers in and around Saint-Germain-en-Laye. In 1896, however, this chapter came to an end: the brewery was auctioned off and later continued under a different name. Nevertheless, Cirier-Pavard remained a symbol of the heyday of French industrial brewing at the fin de siècle. DIMENSIONS: Height: 138cm Diameter: 60cm CONDITION: Good condition. I couldn't get it to work. It has one crack in the base, but this is not a problem.
