DESCRIPTION: A beautifully crafted modernist armchair by L.O.V. Oosterbeek (Labor Omnia Vincit) from the 1920s, documented in the original factory catalog. This design reflects the refined sobriety and geometric clarity characteristic of the Haagsche School, a Dutch Art Deco movement known for its architectural restraint and cubist forms. The chair is made of solid oak and is characterized by clean, straight lines and a subtle architectural silhouette. The robust, vertical legs provide both stability and a powerful appearance, while the rich oak grain adds warmth and tactility to the otherwise sleek geometry. The seat is upholstered with burgundy corduroy (of a later date); the deep color forms a beautiful contrast with the oak frame. Armchairs by L.O.V. Oosterbeek – one of the most important Dutch furniture manufacturers from the early 20th century – embody the ideals of the Haagsche School: calm proportions, high-quality materials, and a conscious rejection of excessive ornamentation in favor of honest construction. An exemplary piece of early modern Dutch design, finding a balance between functional rigor and understated elegance.
About The Haagsche School: After the First World War, young designers such as Henk Wouda, Cor Alons, and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. They were inspired by the modernist work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The result was the now well-known Dutch style of the 'Haagsche School', with its straight and cubist forms. The chairs have been re-upholstered and have a seat that is easy to remove for re-upholstery or adjustment, allowing the furniture to adapt to any interior palette.

CONDITION: Good condition, re-upholstered. The chairs have a few lighter spots in the wood, mainly on the armrests. Minor damage to the wood on a few edges, this is minimal. (See last photos for a better idea of the condition)
PICK UP OR DELIVERY: This item can be picked up in the showroom in Amsterdam Zuid but can also be personally delivered throughout the Netherlands and abroad. Within Amsterdam, €30,- is charged for this, outside Amsterdam from €30,- (Ask for a calculation). For delivery, an individual appointment is made, and good service is provided with placement at the desired location with a smile. If this product is rejected due to hidden defects or incomplete information, no costs will be charged, and you will receive your money back. If you cancel the purchase for other reasons, no refund will be issued.
WELCOME TO THE SHOWROOM: You are welcome in the 500m2 showroom in Amsterdam Zuid, opposite the UMC Hospital. It is easily accessible by public transport and by car. It is located directly next to the A10 (ring road). The showroom is outside the environmental zone. Free parking for customers on site.
