Antique Shishi Lion Dog Meiji red lacquer processional mask, ca. 1880. With hinged jaw. Wooden, hand-carved mask with polychrome (colored) design.
Was used in Japanese theaters and religious street processions and festivals. From the Meiji period (1868-1912). Made in Japan in the 1880s-1910s.
