Product description
Creil et Montereau, two manufactures on the Seine united in 1840, together wrote one of the most brilliant chapters in French fine earthenware. Acquired by Hippolyte Boulenger in 1876, the factory achieved under his direction a level of excellence that earned it international recognition. Pieces signed HBCM — the four letters vertically intertwined, an immediately recognizable mark — are today sought after by collectors worldwide. This sauce boat and its stand feature the "Seoul" pattern, one of the most refined in the factory's repertoire. On the ivory-white earthenware, a continuous frieze of stylized flowers unfolds in two carefully contrasted shades of blue: deep blue for the outlines and centers, light grey-blue for the petals and foliage. Fuchsias, peonies, narcissi, and trailing stems interlock in a composition of great fluidity, where each motif calls to the next. The sauce boat's scalloped, gadrooned rim, the curve of the spout, and the bridge handle complete a silhouette of understated and confident elegance. The circular stand features the same floral frieze on its rim, framing an immaculate white center. Stand diameter: approximately 19 cm. Late 19th century. Good condition.
