A beloved piece of French tableware, from a time when cider was still served in these generous bowls, held with both hands around large country tables. Crafted from Sarreguemines earthenware, this bowl rests on an elegant footed base that gives it a more refined silhouette than ordinary bowls. Its cream background, gently warmed by time, features a beautiful stylized floral decoration blending blue-grey, ochre, and brown. The flowers no longer aim for 19th-century naturalism; they are simplified, almost graphic. Geometrized leaves, solid color blocks, grids, and parallel lines form a decidedly modern decor that draws us towards the Art Deco aesthetic of the 1920s-1930s. It is precisely this mix that gives it its charm. The traditional form of the French cider bowl here meets the new decorative language of the interwar period. With its approximately 11 cm in diameter, it retains beautiful proportions and a lovely enamel sheen. The rim shows a small old chip, perfectly visible in the photographs, a testament to its use and accounted for in its price. A modest piece in its function, but terribly evocative. Sarreguemines, French tables, and that graphic elegance of the Art Deco years which knew how to transform everyday objects.
