A charming piece of French tableware, from a time when cider was still served in these generous bowls, held with two hands around large country tables. Crafted from Sarreguemines earthenware, this bowl rests on an elegant pedestal base, which gives it a more refined silhouette than ordinary bowls. Its cream background, gently warmed by time, features a beautiful stylized floral decor blending blue-grey, ochre, and brown. The flowers no longer strive for 19th-century naturalism. They are simplified, almost graphic. Geometrized leaves, blocks of color, grids, and parallel lines compose a resolutely modern decor that leads us towards the Art Deco aesthetic of the 1920s-1930s. It is precisely this blend that makes its charm. The traditional form of the French cider bowl here meets the new decorative language of the interwar period. With its approximately 11 cm in diameter, it retains lovely proportions and a beautiful enamel sheen. The rim shows a small old chip, perfectly visible in the photographs, a testament to its use and reflected in its price. A modest piece in its function, but terribly evocative. Sarreguemines, French tables, and that graphic elegance of the Art Deco years that knew how to transform everyday objects.
