This antique heliogravure finely reproduces the work of French academic painter Émile Munier, entitled 'Evening Prayer'. A little girl with brown curls, kneeling in her bed against a lace-trimmed pillow, joins her hands in a gesture of prayer, her gaze turned towards the viewer with infinite tenderness. The composition, signed E. Munier and dated 1890, bears the imprint of the publisher Héliogravure Braun et Cie, a renowned Alsatian art reproduction house from the late 19th century. The heliogravure process captures all the subtlety of the halftones, from the velvety texture of the skin to the play of shadows on the sheets, with a sepia depth characteristic of fine prints of the era. The refinement of the lace and the tenderness of the scene bear witness to Munier's talent for children's portraits, which established his reputation in the Parisian Salons. The print is presented in its original patinated giltwood frame, under glass, and retains on its back the label of framer P. Fuchs in Strasbourg. The frame measures approximately 29 x 21 cm and exhibits a beautiful golden patina with the marks of time, the print retaining its sepia warmth under the glass. One can imagine it hanging in a child's bedroom, above an antique chest of drawers, or in a wallpapered hallway where its soft light draws the eye. A piece imbued with tenderness and spirituality, ideal for lovers of academic art, antique prints, and romantic atmospheres of yesteryear.
