This exquisite antique miniature portrait depicts a sensitively rendered likeness of a young lady and dates from the Biedermeier period, between approximately 1825 and 1845. The serene expression, the bare shoulders, and the harmonious coloring are characteristic of private portraiture from the early 19th century.
The miniature painting is set in an original black wooden frame with an oval opening and gilded interior, typical of the Biedermeier era. Before the widespread use of photography, such miniature portraits were considered particularly precious personal mementos.
