A panel entirely hand-embroidered, most likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is a work of exceptional technical mastery, executed in the noble art of cutwork (related to Reticella), well before the era of industrial standardization. The panel is made of antique linen, hand-spun and hand-woven, extremely lightweight, and boasts a magnificent, deep, natural ivory hue. This warm patina, characteristic of antique fabrics, enhances the lacework and lends the piece a timeless elegance. The heart of this panel lies in its central section, where the embroidery and drawn thread work reach their zenith. The remarkably complex motifs are highlighted by an exceptionally dense blanket stitch, ensuring the longevity of these delicate scenes that constitute the very essence of the work. The frieze comprises five square panels illustrating a fantastical bestiary and exquisitely refined Baroque motifs. The piece has been preserved with the care its age demands. The openwork section, the heart of the embroidery, is in excellent condition. The upper linen band, while retaining its integrity, shows more pronounced signs of wear; these serve, by contrast, to highlight the strength and preciousness of the embroidery itself, which remains to this day the most remarkable element of this panel.
