Beautiful antique gilt bronze plaque in bas relief of a Greek goddess depicted with wings, believed to be the goddess Clio, the plaque is mounted on a hardwood carving in neo-Gothic revival style, second half of the 19th century, circa 1880-1900, not marked.
Clio is 1 of the 9 Muses of Greek mythology, specifically she is the muse of historiography, heroic poetry and glorification through song. She is the daughter of the supreme god Zeus. It is not certain where this plaque came from but it can be used today as a decorative art object to hang on the wall.
This rare bronze and the hardwood plaque is very finely crafted and is highly detailed, the quality of the carving and casting is outstanding, the object bears a fantastic patina of age, collector's item for the lover of special objects.
