There is something immediately familiar about this pitcher, like an object one would have always known on a country kitchen dresser. Its very bulbous ovoid body, its flared trumpet-shaped neck with a very pronounced V-shaped spout, and its flattened ribbon handle create a silhouette that is both robust and elegant, in the grand tradition of French folk pottery. The speckled brown-ochre lead glaze, with its irregular dark brown and sand-beige areas, gives the piece that "bark" appearance so characteristic of folk pottery from Central or Southern France. The lower part of the body and the foot remain in unglazed chamois-colored terracotta, a sign of being wheel-thrown in an artisan workshop. The slightly irregular and asymmetrical rim of the neck attests to its handmade origin. Height approximately 14 cm. The interior bears traces of old use, an authentic patina of a piece that has truly served its purpose. Placed on a wooden shelf or a stone countertop, this pitcher immediately brings a warm and authentic country atmosphere.
