This antique bronze sculpture depicts a four-armed standing Ganesha, the Hindu deity of wisdom and prosperity. Originating from the Himalayan region, likely Tibet or Nepal, this piece dates to the 18th or 19th century and presents a commanding devotional presence. Cast in bronze, the figure stands on a tall, modelled pedestal and is framed by an elaborate openwork backplate featuring a halo and lotus-flower motif. The deity holds traditional ritual attributes, including an axe, a loop or hook, and an offering bowl. The sculpture measures 22 centimetres in height and 12 centimetres in width, with finely modelled details visible in the jewellery, belt, and flowing dhoti. The bronze has developed a deep, dark patina over time. It retains surviving remnants of historic fire gilding, particularly within the relief and protected recessed areas, which contrasts with the natural wear and partial loss of gilding that define its aged character. This substantial piece serves as a distinctive focal point for collectors of Himalayan art and antique ritual bronzes. It brings a sense of history and cultural depth to curated interiors, complementing both traditional collections and eclectic, globally inspired spaces.
