Antique German Letter Scale DRGM – Early 20th Century Brass Postal Balance with Vintage Weights
Antique German letter scale marked DRGM (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster), dating to the early 20th century.
This elegant postal balance was designed for weighing letters, envelopes and small items and represents a refined example of early 1900s functional industrial design.
Made of brass and metal with a black base, the scale retains its beautiful original patina developed over time, giving the piece a warm and authentic vintage character. The mechanism is complete and the object remains both an attractive collector’s item and a distinctive decorative desk accessory.
Letter scales like this were commonly used in offices, libraries and private studies before the introduction of modern postal systems. Today they are appreciated as sculptural desk objects, ideal for libraries, studies or interiors inspired by dark academia aesthetics.
The scale is accompanied by four vintage brass metric weights with stamped markings:
• 1 × 500 g
• 1 × 200 g
• 2 × 100 g
While these weights are vintage and complement the piece beautifully, it cannot be confirmed that they originally belonged to this specific scale.
