This beautiful antique English longcase clock features a hand-painted dial signed R. Griffiths, Denbigh, a recognised Welsh clockmaking centre. The Griffiths family was active in Denbigh between circa 1780 and 1840, making this an authentic Georgian-period timepiece.
The painted metal dial is richly decorated with two colourful birds and floral motifs, a charming and highly decorative feature typical of British longcase clocks of this period. The Roman numerals and elegant hands sit within a softly crackled surface that reflects its age and authenticity.
The clock is housed in a George III–style wooden case, with slender columns, a gently arched hood and a warm, original patina. Natural wear, small cracks and surface marks are present and fully consistent with an object of this age, adding to its character rather than detracting from it.
The original pendulum and weights are present. The movement is currently functioning, though it would benefit from adjustment or professional servicing for optimal long-term use. The bell strikes clearly.
