This beautiful antique English grandfather clock features a hand-painted dial, signed by R. Griffiths, Denbigh, a recognized Welsh center for clockmaking. The Griffiths family operated in Denbigh between circa 1780 and 1840, making this an authentic Georgian-period clock.
The painted metal dial is richly decorated with two colorful birds and floral motifs, a charming and highly decorative feature typical of British grandfather clocks from this period. The Roman numerals and elegant hands are set within a gently cracked surface that reflects the clock's age and authenticity.
The clock is housed in a George III-style wooden case with slender columns, a gently curved hood, and a warm, original patina. Natural wear, minor cracks, and surface damage are present and entirely consistent with an object of this age, adding to rather than detracting from its character.
The original pendulum and weights are included. The clock is currently in working order but would benefit from adjustment or professional maintenance for optimal long-term use. The bell chimes clearly.
