Antique Chinese Plate – Canton Enamel on Copper
This decorative Oriental piece is a fine example of precise hand-craftsmanship combining metalwork and enamel. It features the classic "Canton Enamel" style with a striking Imperial dragon motif set against a traditional yellow background.
Material: The base is made of solid copper (a dark metal patina is visible where there are minor abrasions on the foot rim). This is not a modern, lightweight tin imitation.
Motif: Hand-painted five-clawed dragon with the "pearl of wisdom." The yellow background color was historically associated exclusively with the Imperial court.
Evidence of Authentic Production: There is an original technological vent hole on the underside of the foot. This is a crucial detail for older pieces, as it served to release gases during the traditional manual kiln-firing process.
Condition: The item is in very good, well-preserved condition, suitable for a private collection or as a luxury interior centerpiece.
Origin:
Based on the style of execution and technological characteristics, this is a high-quality work from the Republic of China period (approx. first half of the 20th century).
