You see Chinese bridal cabinets regularly - second-hand for a few hundred euros, or at stores for prices between €1,000 and €2,000. But you rarely, if ever, come across a cabinet like this one. This is no standard specimen, but a genuine antique piece from the 19th century, with an unparalleled level of craftsmanship, provenance and detail.
A cabinet with history and class
Originally made in Ningbo, China, this type of cabinet was given as a dowry to daughters of wealthy families. The scale, use of wood and especially the finish served as a symbol of wealth, status and blessing.
What immediately sets this cabinet apart from all others is the exquisite hand-carved crown - not mass-produced, but a unique, multi-layered work of art with refined piercing carvings. This complex technique creates a spatial, openwork effect rarely found in such size and condition. The depth, rhythm and balance in the crown make it a true visual showpiece.
Traditional construction, original condition
The cabinet is made entirely by hand from solid elm wood, with classic mortise-and-tenon joints and original wooden hinges - so no nails or glue. The authentic red lacquer finish, a symbol of luck and prosperity, has acquired a beautifully weathered patina over time.
Behind the large doors is a practical layout with an interior shelf and two smaller drawers. The cabinet is completely solid, stable and ready for immediate use.
